EVENT INFORMATION

Christy began 2012 with 3 sell out shows at Dublin’s Grand Canal Theatre, followed by a televised performance at the BBC Folk Awards in February, where his rendering of Kevin Littlewood’s Morecambe Bay, a description of Chinese cockle pickers caught unawares by the rising tide, was nominated for Best Original Song.

Morecambe Bay features on Moore’s well regarded 2011 release Folk Tale. Produced by Declan Sinnott, Folk Tale is the latest result of Christy and Declan’s unique musical alliance.    Other players on Folk Tale include Gerry O'Connor, Tim Edey and Neil Martin with The West Ocean String Quartet.

The album features 11 tracks:   One song argues that God must be a Woman, another describes a Flight to Freedom; There is a song about The Singing Priests in the Phoenix Park and another describing a bunch of Tulips in Amsterdam.  One song recalls a murder in East Clare, another remembers The Choctaw Indian people coming to Skibbereen.  One eulogises a Mode of Transport in Kildare while yet another describes nights spent out in The Naul.   There are some words from Paula Meehan (the Poet of Dublin) and a song of Tipperary. From Lancashire comes the beautiful (yet awful) song called Morecambe Bay.

In spring 2012, Christy appeared in a series of dates around Ireland, before embarking on a 10 day tour of the UK which included two sell out shows at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

On his return to Ireland, he kicked off the summer with an appearance at the Live at the Marquee concert series.  This marked his 8th successive year performing in the Cork tent, the only artists who can claim that annual feat.

July found him delivering a rousing stand-up set to a packed audience in the Big Top at the Galway Arts Festival.

The big summer shows were rounded out by his exhilarating performance in front of a euphoric crowd in the Crawdaddy tent at this year’s Electric Picnic.
