Ian Parker and his band
Remarkably given his age, Ian Parker performed his first public concerts twenty years ago. At just 15, he began playing in pubs throughout the West Midlands with his first band ‘Strange Brew’, drawing inspiration from such blues-rock luminaries as Jimi Hendrix, Cream, and Fleetwood Mac. It was through these artists that Ian began a journey of discovery, delving deep into the history of a musical form originating thousands of miles from his native Stourbridge, in the cotton fields of Mississippi.
In the summer of 2003 performing as a solo artist with The Ian Parker Band, Ian signed a deal with Ruf Records following a personal introduction to internationally renowned record producer, David Z (Prince, Jonny Lang). Several albums and two live DVDs followed, alongside numerous appearances on national TV and radio throughout the world, most notably BBC Radio 2 in the UK, TROS Music Cafe in The Netherlands, and Rockpalast - Germany’s top live music TV show. Ian has toured extensively throughout the UK, Europe, and the USA in a career which has established him as one of the UK’s leading Blues/Roots singer-songwriters and guitarists.
In December 2012, Ian played a special 20th anniversary show at Robin 2 for which he assembled an exciting new band comprising his former Strange Brew band mates, David Jenkins on bass and Chris Finn on drums, along with his long-time collaborator Morg Morgan on keys. The show, which features songs from all periods of Ian’s career to date, was warmly received and requests soon came in for more appearances, including a headlining spot at the prestigious Maryport Festival in July 2013.
Ian returns to Robin 2 with his band on 5th June - a show not to be missed!!
