More information about Jasmine Myra + Simeon Walker tickets

Just over a year since a packed show at Brudenell Social Club Leeds, UK saxophonist Jasmine Myra returns to the venue on Wednesday 1st May 2024 with her world class band and a stack of new material that's been prepared for her next album. Following the release of her debut album "Horizons" on Gondwana records in summer 2022, Jasmine's musical career and profile skyrocketed over the next year and a half. Brilliant reviews worldwide and a mass of airplay on radio alongside top streaming playlisting resulted in major tours and festival appearances across the UK and mainland Europe. Here's a few quotes from some fans in the music business :

“It's such a great record, absolutely beautiful” – Tom Ravenscroft, BBC 6 Music

“It sounds amazing, it’s a beautiful recording” – Gilles Peterson, BBC 6 Music

“A great new artist!” – Jamie Cullum, BBC Radio 2

“This is beautiful and profound music” – London Jazz News

For those still unfamiliar with the artist and her work, Jasmine Myra is a saxophonist, composer and bandleader from Leeds but now based in London. She was part of the bustling, creative, cross-genre music scene in Leeds where she surrounded herself with some of the best young talent in the north of England. Her original instrumental music has a euphoric and uplifting sound, influenced by artists as diverse as Bonobo, Olafur Arnalds and Kenny Wheeler, artists whose music shares an emotive quality that you can also hear in Jasmine’s own compositions She signed to Gondwana Records in early 2022 and worked with label owner and producer Matthew Halsall (whose keen ear for talent helped bring the music of GoGo Penguin, Mammal Hands and Hania Rani to the wider world), to deliver her much acclaimed debut album "Horizons" in summer 2022. It's great to have her back in the city of her birth once again, where it all began, and also back at the Brudenell with DJ Lubi, a grass roots jazz promoter who'se been suppoting her music since day one.

Support comes from a familiar face at Brudenell Social Club....pianist Simeon Walker.

The Leeds-based pianist & composer has quickly emerged as a leading light in the burgeoning Modern Classical scene, following the release of ‘Mono’ and ‘Winnow’, his two albums to date. Simeon regularly performs and tours across the UK and Europe, has supported a variety of artists including S. Carey, LYR, Sebastian Plano, Loscil, Erland Cooper and Taz Modi, and performed notable live sets at Latitude & Timber Festivals. His latest single ‘Reverie’ features on the first official Piano Day compilation by the LEITER label, alongside Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds and Chilly Gonzales.

His music receives regular broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 shows including Unclassified & NightTracks, alongside BBC 6Music, KEXP and Soho Radio, with his music receiving listening figures in excess of 25 million streams across platforms. He also founded and continues to curate Brudenell Piano Sessions, an intimate and varied live music series highlighting the diverse music being composed and performed on the piano, hosted at Leeds’ iconic Brudenell Social Club.

Simeon’s recent work represents a return to the gentle, introspective piano-based instrumentals that first thrust him into the limelight. His new EP series ‘Imprints’ features a set of piano miniatures representing everyday fleeting moments, brief snapshots in time, centred on conveying the emotions and feelings experienced during the lockdowns of recent years, and highlighting the desire to be outside and out in the open. Whilst introspective and melancholic, there is also a sense of hope and longing for openness and connection as we emerge into a fresh reality, with listeners invited to find stillness, beauty and meaning as much in the spaces between the notes as the notes themselves, as musical stories are woven with each tender, intimate performance.
