For the next Nossa! dancefloor wiggle, we're seriously excited to be welcoming one of our favourite DJs over to Manchester all the way from Brazil!

Tahira started out in the buzzing DJ scene of 90s São Paulo and has since become one of the foremost champions of Afro-Brazilian sounds. While many diggers of Brazilian music lean towards the American influenced takes on funk and disco, Tahira squares in on the country's rich musical lineage as part of the greater African diaspora, with a pronounced emphasis on African rhythms. He's an absolute expert at weaving these organic, percussive sounds together to keep feet stomping on through the night.

As a music researcher, Tahira has turned out two incredible compilations that have found plenty of airtime with the Nossa! crew. Levanta Poeira (2018) spans 1976 to 2016 and is a brilliant introduction to Afro-Brazilian rhythms, touching on forró, samba de coco and indigenous vocal styles as well as some fantastic remixes and electronic fusions. Brasil Novo (2022) was curated in collaboration with Musica Macondo's Tim Garcia and showcases the contemporary sounds of samba, candomble, batuques, jazz, folk and more.

Tahira's own productions are also heavily influences by Brazilian, African and Latin sounds and have earned him acclaim from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Mr Scruff, Zakia, John Gómez and more.
