It’s been 16 years since her first single “I wish I was a punk rocker” shot to no.1 in 7 different countries and since then Thom has continued to make albums that are eclectic, different and timeless. What you probably don’t know about Sandi Thom is that she’s something of a trailblazer.

In a world where our every moment is recorded live on social media, we often forget where it all began. Well, in actual fact, Sandi Thom was one of the first recording artists to ever Stream a concert live from her London home and back in 2005 she made history doing just that. Sandi Thom is the original internet star.

The subsequent rise to fame in 2006 was a whirlwind for Sandi and after 2 albums she decided to part company with her major record label to reclaim her creative power. Despite being independent again, she continued to break boundaries being one of the only Indie record labels to secure a Worldwide distribution deal with Universal records with zero sales history.

Having moved to LA in 2010 she branched out of the pop scene to make Blues and Country albums with the likes of Guitar legend Joe Bonamassa and Black Crowes member Rich Robinson.

In 2016 she gave birth to her son Logan and stepped away from her career to focus her energy on voluntary work. Having spent a significant time in the Middle East doing self funded humanitarian work rescuing and rehoming hundreds of street dogs Sandi Thom was off the radar for several years. However, this year she permanently relocated back to the UK with her son and is officially back and better than ever.

“I’ve grown so much in the past 4 years that I’ve been off the road” Thom says, “my experiences have really shaped me and been an amazing inspiration for my latest songs”.

With over 70 million Spotify streams the Scottish singer’s popularity continues to grow organically. “I’m always so humbled at how my songs just seem to continue to connect with people” she says. One song in particular; November Rain, taken from Thom’s album of Acoustic Classic Rock covers just hit 13 million streams on you tube.

“I’ve always seen myself as something of a Rebel with a cause” Thom says.

And most certainly this next body of work reflects that perfectly.

“I went back to my roots, I wanted to use my voice as a powerful instrument, taking the production style of my Punk rocker era but giving it a completely different edge.

So when I came to record ‘Silence’ I knew It had to be just voices and nothing more! I wanted the message of the song, one of Hope after struggle and conflict to be carried by my voice alone and I think the track has turned out to be magical!”

Silence, the first track to be released from the Ep ‘Warpaint’ is Thom’s first release since 2017 combining tradition with modern effect. The song speaks a message that is so relevant to many people, one of Hope after struggle or conflict, and is particularly poignant at this time of year, especially with what is unfolding in the world right now.

“I’ve always felt my role in this world is to write and record songs that can lift people out of dark places, or even more so dark times, I really feel Silence is one of those songs”.
