The Brody and Nickson Workshop

The Leeds Library, Leeds.

Frances Brody – now Dr. Frances Brody - and Chris Nickson are perhaps the two leading historical crime novelists in Leeds. Between them, they evoke periods from the 1730s to the 1960s, and bring them to life with sharp details and characterisations.

Frances has detective Kate Shackleton, whose work takes her all across Yorkshire, and prison governor Nell Lewis, each with a host of challenges, while Chris’s characters include Richard Nottingham, Constable of Leeds, thief-taker Simon Westow, and Tom Harper, whose police career takes him from beat bobby to Chief Constable.

Born and raised in Leeds, both Frances and Chris have the area in their DNA, and a deep sense of place and time is at the heart of their writing.

They’ll be discussing historical crime fiction, Leeds, God’s Own Country, what whatever else they choose in a discussion that promises to range far and wide and to include some local stories and strange facts.
